Rachel & David’s Romantic Wedding in Charleston SC on March 19th

I can’t say how honored (and nervous) I was to be asked to DJ our Bunn DJ Company Charleston branch owners wedding along with the mighty Joe Bunn.  David is a great DJ and Rachel is the sweetest!  The pressure was on to make this beyond perfect for them.  Invitation accepted and here we go… Of course, it was the day after I got back from a week in Vegas. LOL.

The ceremony and reception were both held in Charleston SC’s historic Society Hall.  A beautiful 200 year old building right downtown.  I can’t even begin to imagine the history in this building.  The ceremony was held on the first floor for 100 guests and I provided music for that.  The parents and groomsmen walked down the aisle to “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” by Sleeping At Last, the bridesmaids to “Bright” by Echosmith and Rachel & her father to “I Choose You” by Sara Bareilles.  After the short ceremony the wedding party exited to “Ho Hey”.  The guests made their way to the second floor with help from planner Aly Howard from Palmetto Weddings for cocktails while photographer Julie Livingston and videographer Daniel Foster got some pics.  During the cocktail hour I had a mix of standards, classic soul and soft rock playing.  They even had an awesome champagne skirt girl by Elevate walking around.

 

After the cocktail hour the wedding party was introduced by Joe Bunn to “Stole The Show” by Kygo and Rachel & David to “GDFT” by Flo Rida.  They came in to thunderous applause and then had their first dance to “You Are The Best Thing” followed by a welcome by Rachel’s father and blessing by their officiant.  The food stations opened and I continued the same mix of music during dinner.

 

After dinner Rachel and David had a private cake cutting with their parents and the donut station opened.  They came to the dance floor for the parents dances with Rachel dancing with her father to “In My Life” by The Beatles and David and his mother to “Child Of Mine” by Carole King.  I invited all the married couples to join David and Rachel for a dance before opening it to everyone.  We had a “longest married couple” dance to “What A Wonderful World” with the winning couple at 51 years!  I then played a set of motown, current top 40 and 80’s that filled the floor within minutes.

For the next 2 ½ hours I played everything from oldies, 70’s thru current and even a couple country songs.  It was inevitable, but Joe Bunn and even David the groom got on the tables for sets!  The guests were treated to 3 great DJ’s at this wedding….and huge glowsticks.  We ended the night with ‘Stole The Show” again by Kygo and Rachel & David had a bubbles exit from the front of the building.

It was one of my favorite weddings and one the guests and myself will never forget!  Thank you Rachel, David and Aly and congratulations.

Amy & Brian’s Wedding at Solas in Raleigh NC on March 12th

Amy and Brian chose downtown Raleigh’s Solas Nightclub for their wedding ceremony and reception on March 12^th.  As guests arrived for the ceremony on the top floor they were treated by music performed by a live violinist.  The short ceremony was soon over and guests made their way to the first floor for cocktails and passed hors d’oeuvres.  During the cocktail hour I had a mix of beach music, standards and classic rock playing.

After pics were taken by photographer Rachel from Thirteenth Moon Photography, the guests were invited up to the 2^nd floor for dinner and dancing by Solas’s Miriam.  I had the same mix playing on this floor and went to line the wedding party up.  The small wedding party (including their funny ring bearer Chase) was introduced to “Sirius” by Alan Parsons and Amy & Brian to “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” by Stevie Wonder.  They came right to the dance floor and had their first dance to Heatwave’s “Always and Forever”.  One of my favorite ballads ever!  The buffet opened in the back of the room and I continued the same music mix during dinner.

After dinner we had the toasts and opened the floor with some beach music and oldies that filled it for the next 2 hours.   During dancing I played beach music, oldies, some current top 40, 80’s and a couple line dances until the last dance to “Wonderful Tonight”.

What a fun night and a great group to DJ for.  Congratulations Amy & Brian!

Jessica & John’s Sweet Wedding at The Carolina Inn on February 27th

Jessica and John have to be two of the nicest people I have DJd for!  They chose one of my favorite venues, The Historic Carolina Inn in Chapel Hill, for their wedding reception on February 27th.  After their church ceremony, the 190 guests made their way to the Inn for cocktails in the hallway and passed hors d’oeuvres while photographer Diane Personette and videographer David Tran from Charis Films got some shots.  Photos were done and Jessica and John arrived ready to get the party started!  The doors to the Hill ballroom opened and the Inn’s Tiffany helped guests find their seats and get ready for the introductions.

The 20 person wedding party all came in all together as a group to “Forever” by Chris Brown followed by Jessica & John’s parents. Jessica and John came in to a loud roar from the crowd and right to the floor for their first dance to “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran.  John then welcomed everyone and their pastor blessed the meal.  The individually served salads and entrée’s came out and I had a mix of country, soft rock and beach music playing.

After dinner we had the champagne toasts and a Blue Moon Bakery cake cutting to “You Are The Best Thing” by Ray LaMontagne.  They came back to the dance floor after for a combined parents dance to “What A Wonderful World” by Michael Buble.  I then opened the floor with “Carolina Girls” followed by some beach, Motown and current dance music.  For the next couple hours, guests danced to 80’s, 90’s, oldies, current hits and some line dances.  We paused briefly for the bouquet toss to “Single Ladies” (congrats to Sarah from The Angus Barn for catching) and garter toss to “Let’s Get It On”, then back to dancing until the end of the night.

 

We ended the night with “Wagon Wheel” and their last dance with everyone to “Carolina” by Eric Church.  I sent guests to the lobby for the confetti exit and they got to take Duck Donuts as a parting favor. I mean, who doesn’t love a maple bacon donut late at night???  But, the floor wasn’t closed for Jessica and John.  They had one last private dance with only them in the room to “I’ll Follow You” by Jon McLaughlin.  What a beautiful moment!  Thank you John and Jessica and congratulations!

Sarah & Alex’s Surprise Wedding At The Stockroom In Raleigh NC on February 19th

People who know me know how much I love a great practical joke and surprising the people I love, especially at a wedding.  I was thrilled to be in on Sarah & Alex’s surprise to their 100 family members and friends on February 19^th at the historic Stockroom at 230 in downtown Raleigh NC with planner Katie from La Fete and Photographer Graham Terhune!

As guests entered the room for what they thought was an engagement party dinner, they were greeted by Sarah in her wedding dress and Alex in his suit.  SURPRISE!! We’re actually getting married right now!!  The guests found their seats for the ceremony and I had a mix of classical versions of pop songs playing.  The parents and small wedding party walked down the aisle to “Jesu, Joy Of Man’s Desiring” and Sarah and her father to “Canon In D”.  After a short ceremony by minister Kayelily MIddleton the wedding party recessed to “Gimme Some Lovin’” by Spencer Davis.  The guests made their way to the Mahler Gallery next door for cocktails and the staff at The Stockroom got it ready for dinner and dancing.

 

The guests made their way back upstairs and I introduced Sarah and Alex to “You Are The Best Thing” by Ray LaMontagne.  They came in to very loud cheering and to the floor for their first dance to “How Long Will I Love You” by Ellie Goulding.  Sarah then danced with her father to “My Girl” and Alex and his mother to “The Man You’ve Become”.  Sarah’s father took the mic for a heartfelt welcome and blessed the meal.  The individually served salads and entrées came out by caterers PoshNosh and I played a mix of soft rock, standards ad classic soul during dinner.

After dinner we had the Edible Arts cake cutting to “Sugar, Sugar” and opened the floor with some Motown and oldies.  Through the night I played a lot of 80’s, some current hits and some 90’s hip-hop.  The night ended with “Save The Last Dance” by Michael Buble.

What a fun wedding and a great surprise.  Thank you Sarah, Alex & Katie!

Kristen & Austin’s Romantic Wedding at Market Hall in Downtown Raleigh on February 13th, 2016

Kristen & Austin chose to have both their wedding ceremony and reception at the historic Market Hall in Downtown Raleigh on February 13^th, the day before Valentine’s Day.  I provided music and mic’s for the ceremony as well as the cocktail hour and reception.  As guests arrived for the ceremony I had a classical mix playing.  It was time for the ceremony to start and the 150 guests found their seats with help from planner Kathy from Sally Oakley Events.  The Grandparents and Parents walked down the aisle to “Ode To Joy”, Austin and the groomsmen to “Come Thou Fount Of Every Blessing” by Chris Rice, the bridesmaids to “Canon In D” and finally Kristen & her father to Journey keyboardist Jonathan Cain’s version of “The Bridal March”.  After a short ceremony with a few readings, they recessed to chorus of “Islands In The Stream” LOL.  So great! 

The guests made their way to the bar for cocktails and passed hors d’oeuvres, the staff flipped the room and photographer Philip Herndon got some pics of the wedding party in the room and outside on the cobblestone streets.  During the cocktail hour I had a mix of soft rock and country playing.  After pics were done and the room was flipped, guests found their seats and it was time to introduce the wedding party.

I introduced each couple to a different song including the ushers, ring bearers, Parents and Austin’s Grandparents.  They came to the dance floor and lined along the back wall.  Kristen & Austin entered to “You’re My Best friend” by Queen and had their first dance to The Avett Brothers “Offering”.  They took their seats and Karen’s Aunt blessed the meal. During the buffet dinner I had another mix of soft rock and country playing.

 

After dinner we had toasts by the maid of honor and best man and the cake cutting to “How Sweet It Is” by James Taylor.  Kristen’s father then joined her on the floor for their dance to “I Loved Her First” and Austin escorted his mother nicely to the floor for their dance to the beach music hit “Ocean Boulevard”.   I invited all the married couples to join them after that for an anniversary dance to “The Way You Look Tonight” by Frank Sinatra with Austin’s Grandparents winning at 65 years married!  That may be the longest I have ever had.  I opened the floor with Motown and top 40 that filled it for the next 3 hours!  I played everything from country line dances, top 40, oldies, 90’s hip-hop and some 80’s sing alongs.  We ended the night with Wilson Phillip’s “Hold On” and finally “Wagon Wheel” before the sparkler exit.  This was one of my favorite weddings!  Thank you Kristen, Austin & Kathy!
