The southern charm of Wake Forest’s Sutherland plantation was the setting for
Kathlyn and Michael’s picture perfect ceremony and reception on a beautiful
June 6th day. The ceremony
was held in the side lawn with music provided by an acoustic guitarist. The
ceremony concluded and guests made their way to the lawn in front of a cabin
for cocktails, hour d’oeuvres and lawn games while photographer Kristen
Firewicz took some pics of the wedding party.
For the cocktail hour I had a mix of indie rock, classic rock and soul
and a few standards. Kathlyn and Michael
were done with pics and ready to be announced so guests started making their
way to the open-air pavilion with help from Crystal & Donna from The
Sutherland for dinner, dancing & games.
Kathlyn and Michael were introduced to Weezer’s “(If You’re
Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To” and came to the dance floor for
their first dance to “Can’t Help Falling In Love” by Ingrid Michaelson that had
them both singing it to each other like they were the only 2 in the room. So Sweet!! After that, Kathlyn’s father and
Michael’s mother joined them on the floor for their joint parents dance to
“Lean On Me” by Bill Withers. They took
their seats after the dance and the plated salad’s came out by Rocky Top Catering followed by a
delicious buffet. During dinner I
continued the same mix as cocktails.
As dinner wound down, I reminded guests to visit the favor’s
table, sign the guest book, donate to the 3 charities in lieu of gifts, play
lawn games, start some board games on the 2 tables next to me, whack the heart
shaped candy filled piñata or join guests on the dance floor. Needless to day, there was a ton of things to
do! For dancing I played everything from Motown to current dance music and some
2000’s “techno”. We paused briefly for
the cake cutting to “Love You Madly” by Cake (get it??) and a bouquet toss to
“Call Me Maybe” that was actually 3 different bouquets by Lyn at Fresh Affairs that went in 3 different
directions. So funny!
The night ended with a huge sing-a-long circle to “Closing
Time” by Semisonic and a sparkler exit. I
had a blast playing this playlist!
Congratulations Kathlyn and Michael!
