Whitney and Christian had both ceremony and reception at The Carolina Inn with the ceremony
outside and reception in The Old Well Room. They were engaged there, so
it was very important to Whitney to get married in the same spot as the
engagement. Wedding planner Sally
Oakley made sure it happened in between the raindrops. Great job
Sally! Photographer Wendy Boyer from Dancing Heart Photography was
there all night capturing every moment.
The wedding party came into the beautiful Carolina Inn Old Well room to
the 80’s gem “The Final Countdown” by Europe, and Christian and Whitney made
their way to the floor for their first dance “God Only Knows” by The Beach
Boys. One of my favorite songs
ever! After their first dance Whitney danced
with her Father to Kenny Loggins “Return To Pooh Corner”. Bridesmaid Jessilyn introduced the next song
which was an interpretive Japanese dance to “Mata Kimi ni Koi Shiteru” by Fuyumi
Sakamoto. The dancer had a full on
Kimono and her dance was absolutely beautiful! Whitney’s Father Joe said a few
words and it was time for the 3 course meal with soup, salad and entrĂ©e’s. Dinner music was standards and some latin bachata.
After dinner, the Miel Bon Bon’s
cake cutting to “All You Need Is Love” by The Beatles and toasts brought on one
of the most touching parts of a wedding I have ever seen. Whitney’s Father was supposed to perform a
song during the ceremony, but the oncoming rain cancelled it. He decided to perform it after the toasts and
before I opened the floor. He sang and
played acoustic guitar to “Follow Me” by John Denver and there was not a dry
eye in the room. He used to sing it 38
years ago.
It was hard to open the floor after that, but “My Girl” brought everyone
out. After a few Motown songs I mixed
into “Suavemente” and a few other latin songs and all of Chris’s Spanish
speaking family members rushed the floor.
It was great seeing Whitney’s family and Chris’s family having such a
great time dancing together!
We stopped to do a longest married couples dance to “At last” by Etta
James and Chris’s parents won. The floor opened again to some current dance music
and guests filled the floor until the last song of the night, “Can’t Help
Falling In Love” by Elvis.
Whitney and Chris made a bubble exit from the front porch of The
Carolina Inn. What a fun time and I was
so glad I was there for it. I will never
forget this reception and Whitney’s Father’s performance!
