DeHart-Chuck/Kumar wedding reception at The Umstead on December 21st, 2013

Lindsay and Rishi chose the 5 star Umstead Hotel and Spa for their ceremony, cocktail hour and reception with planner Kelley Ann Ward from the hotel and photographers Carolyn & Geoff from Carolyn Scott Photography.  It is always a treat to work with Kelley Ann, Carolyn and Geoff.  The indoor ceremony was across the hall from the reception.  I had classical music playing while guests arrived.  The wedding party walked down the isle to “Here Comes The Sun/The Inner Light” from The Beatles Love soundtrack.  This version was perfect for them and really set the tone for the night with a hint of music from India to honor Rishi’s family.  Lindsay walked down the isle to The Beatles “Something” and their recessional was “All You Need Is Love”.

Guests were escorted across the hall for the cocktail hour and I had a mix of standards playing.  The doors to the ballroom opened and the guests and wedding party found their seats.  The room was filled with beautiful flowers from Tre Bella Florist.  Lindsay and Rishi entered to “It Had To Be You” and went right to the floor for their first dance “Can’t Get Enough Of Your Love” by Barry White.  Rishi played this for Lindsay on their first dance.  Smooth Rishi !!!  After their first dance, Lindsay’s Father welcomed everyone and it was time for the 3-course meal.  For dinner I continued the mix of standards and reminded guests to leave their thumbprint on the framed thumbprint tree in the pre-function area.

After dinner we had toasts by the Best Man and the 2 Maid’s Of Honor (both names Emily) and the Sweet Memories cake cutting to “The Way You Look Tonight” by Frank Sinatra.  Lindsay joined her father on the floor to dance to The Beatles “Til There Was You” and Rishi danced with his mother to “God Only Knows” by The Beach Boys.  I then opened the floor with 2013’s #1 song “Blurred Lines” and the floor packed with young and old.  I played a few current dance songs, then some oldies. I ended the early set with “Shout” from Animal House then into the Indian song “Tunak, Tunak, Tun” by Delar Mehndi and energy went through the roof!  It was so great to see both cultures having such a great time together!  Several other Indian songs made this reception really special and unique.

The night ended with The Lumineer’s “Ho Hey” and we said goodbye to everyone.  What a great wedding and I had a blast!  I was so glad I was able to be a part of one of the most important days of Lindsay and Rishi’s life!
