Mother-Sister Dance: “Murder In The City” by The Avett Brothers

I was looking so forward to playing for Nicole and Jon’s wedding Saturday at The Stockroom in downtown Raleigh NC!  They are the nicest couple and I loved their music picks.

They were married the day before, so this was more of a wedding celebration party.  The guests started arriving before Nicole and Jon and I had a mix of indie rock and classic soul playing.  Nicole & Jon were waiting in the top floor’s Glass Box to be announced into the room.  Everyone arrived and I was ready to get the introduction going.

I only introduced Nicole & Jonathan and they came in to thunderous applause and had their first dance.  Nicole’s father then joined her for their dance and Jonathan escorted his Sister to the floor for their dance.  The salads came out and the buffet opened.  The Rocky Top dinner was so good!!!!! As always.

After dinner we had toasts and a heart felt thank you by Jon, then the cake cutting.  After that I opened the floor with some oldies and top 40 that was soon filled for the next 2 hours.  I played a mix of oldies and Motown, top 40 and hip hop, some 70’s & 80’s, a few line dances and even New Kids On The Block for Nicole & her childhood friends.  We ended the night with a huge sing a long circle to “Piano Man” and “Sweet Caroline”.

This was one of my favorite weddings, and not one I, or the guests, will soon forget!

Thank you again

I was really excited to play Kirk & Jennifer’s wedding Sunday at Durham’s Rickhouse!  Not only is the venue really cool with a glass wall overlooking a distillery in the building and overlooks the old Durham Bulls Baseball Stadium, but Kirk and Jennifer have great taste in music!

The ceremony was held in the Rickhouse and I provided music and a mic for that.  As guests arrived I had a mix of classical covers of indie rock songs playing.  After a short ceremony that included a group family hug with their daughters the 70 guests made their way to the bar and side porch to visit and enjoy refreshments while the staff flipped the room for dinner and dancing.  During the cocktail hour I had a mix of soft rock, classic soul and standards playing.

After the cocktail hour the guests found their seats and I introduced the wedding party.  They came in and lined the back of the dance floor for Jennifer & Kirk’s first dance and parents dances.  After that the food stations opened and I continued the cocktail music through dinner.

After dinner we had toasts and I opened the floor with some beach music and oldies.  I threw in a few line dances for the kids including a fun “Chicken Dance” lead by the adults.  We paused briefly for the cake cutting and anniversary dance that had the winners married 47 years!  Back to dancing to some 70’s and  80’s music and a few current dance songs.  We ended the night with “Home” by Edward Sharpe and finally “Fire and the Flood” by Vance Joy before a sparkler exit.

This was one of my favorite weddings, and not one I, or the guests, will soon forget!

Thank you again Jennifer & Kirk!

Last Song: “Take Me Home Tonight” by Eddie Money

Having known and worked with Nicole for a couple years on weddings I was beyond flattered that she wanted me to be her DJ!  Her and Rob are the nicest couples and I don’t believe I have met a Bride as excited to get married as Nicole was.

The ceremony was originally supposed to be outside on the side lawn, but had to be moved inside of the carriage house because of rain and thunder, no problem.  Nicole had a guitarist from Arioso Strings playing the music and her father jumped on the electric piano to play Elton John’s “Your Song” at the beginning of the ceremony.  What a special moment!  After a beautiful ceremony by Barbara Lodge, the 100 guests made their way inside the Merrimon-Wynne house for cocktails and passed hors d’oeuvres with a live bluegrass band that was terrific!

After the cocktail hour guests made their way back to the Carriage house for dinner and dancing. I introduced the wedding party and they came in and lined the floor for Nicole & Rob’s first dance.  They danced to the first verse of the song, then the guests joined them for the next verse.  After the second verse I mixed into “My Girl” and some oldies for 15 minutes, then opened the food stations on the pergola.

After dinner Nicole and Rob had the toasts and cake cutting and I opened the floor again with some beach music and top 40 that kept them dancing until the end of the night.  The Freezing Pointe ice cream station on the side porch was a huge hit as was the beautiful lawn.  We ended the night with some EDM per Nicole’s request and finally some sings a longs to “Piano Man” and “New York, New York” but I could tell they weren’t ready to end so mixed into “Empire State Of Mind” by Jay Z and finally “Turn Down For What”.

This was one of my favorite weddings, and not one I, or the guests, will soon forget!

Thank you again
