A Wedding 10 Years Coming!

I was so thrilled and honored to DJ Lars & Sarah’s wedding on February 4th at The University Club in Durham.  Not only are they the nicest couple and been together for 10 years, she is the daughter of one of my favorite wedding vendors.

The University Club is on the 17th floor of University towers and overlooks Durham and Chapel Hill.  What a view! Their ceremony was also held there with live musicians handling the music.  After a short ceremony, the 80 guests made their way to my room for cocktails with help from The University Club’s Amanda.  While guests were enjoying cocktails and passed hors d’oeuvres photographer Dejuan from In His Image got some shots of the wedding party.  During the cocktail hour I had a mix of classic rock, classic soul and standards playing.

After pics were done I invited guests to their seats and introduced the 3 flower girls, 3 ring bearers, Best Man and Maid of Honor to “Happy”.  After that Lars & Sarah entered to “You Are The Best Thing” by Ray LaMontagne.  They stopped on the dance floor for their first dance to “When You Say Nothing At All” by Allison Krauss.  This is one of my favorite ballads ever!  Sarah’s father joined her for their dance to “Daughter” by Loudon Wainwright and Lars & his mother to “Days Like This” by Van Morrison.  Lars welcomed everyone and the buffet opened.  During dinner I had the same playlist as cocktails.

Guests started dancing towards the end of dinner so I went right into “dance mode”.  A nice problem to have as a DJ!  We paused after 20 min of dancing for the toasts and cake cutting to “I Choose you”, then had an anniversary dance to “How Sweet it Is” by James Taylor with Lars parents winning at 45 years married.  I opened the floor to everyone with some Motown and top 40 that filled it for the next 1.5 hours until the sparkler exit.  It was so great seeing parents and their young children dancing to everything from “Copacabana” to “Hair Up” from The Trolls movie!

  1. Randy, you were so superb for their wedding and the fact that you had EVERY single song that was requested by Sarah and Lars, the guests AND the grandkids, just proves to me even more what a kind-hearted professional you are. Thank you for creating the musical backdrop for the reception and the love on display from so many people. You are a Magic Man!
